Your 2016 Closing Address Speaker is Andrea Plaid

Named one of Ebony.com’s “8 Dynamic Black Women Editors in New Media, Andrea Plaid serves as a critic for Kirkus Reviews and a contributing author at RH Reality Check. She is a contributing editor for The Feminist Wire.IMG_0274 Plaid was an associate producer of renowned web series Black Folk Don’t. She has appeared on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry, served as a recurring commentator on Huffington Post Live, and appeared on GRITtv as well as The Guardian, In These Times, Chicago Tribune, and Washington Post. She has also spoken about aspects of race, popular culture, and feminism at academic institutions such as Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania. Plaid served as an associate editor the award-winning race-and-pop-culture blog Racialicious. Her work on race, gender, sex, and sexuality has appeared online at such outlets as On The Issues and Bitch.com. Plaid’s commentary on Black women and sexuality appears in the new book, The Sisters Are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women in America by Tamara Winfrey Harris. She also contributed to Feminism For Real: Deconstructing The Academic Industrial Complex of Feminism, edited by Jessica (Yee) Danforth. She currently lives in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota.
